Proximity Creates Possibility.

God intentionally has you where you live, with the neighbors you have, and in the job you’re in for a reason. We’re praying for opportunities to love our actual neighbors.

Mountain Brook

Our Vision

To be a church where people come to know the person and work of Jesus Christ in a real way, are established in their faith to consider Jesus for all of life, and are equipped for impact where they live, work, and play.

Our Mission

To share Jesus for the good of our neighbor, our city, and our world.

Our Values

These seven convictions are more than statements on a page. They shape the kind of church we hope to become and how we want to live together.

Who are we?

  • “For from him (Jesus) and through him and to him are all things. To him be glory forever. Amen.”

    Romans 11:36

Tim Keller used to talk about how the Gospel (the Good News of Jesus) was not just the ABCs of the Christian life, but the A to Z of the Christian life. We want to make much of Jesus!

  • “For by grace you have been saved through faith.”

    Ephesians 2:8a

“Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand”

    Romans 5:2a

Grace is fuel for the journey! We are saved by grace and are sustained by grace, and we want to be a place where people experience the grace of Christ for their lives.

  • “But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”

    Matthew 6:33

We want to be ‘for’ the kingdom more than ‘for’ the Mountain Brook Project. God is doing many things in many places, and we want to be excited for all God is doing to see His kingdom come.

What do we do?

  • “But seek the welfare of the city where I have sent you into exile, and pray to the Lord on its behalf, for in its welfare you will find your welfare.”

    Jeremiah 29:7

In God’s providence, He has you in a specific neighborhood, job, or relationships. The place you inhabit is not coincidental. We want to be impactful where we live, work, and play. Proximity creates possibility!

  • “By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

    John 13:35

We are committed to each other! Family isn’t always perfect or easy, but there is something deeper than preference, comfort, or pleasure tying us to each other. We seek the good of the other, and that sometimes comes at our own expense!

  • “but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

    Romans 5:8

“Show hospitality to one another without grumbling.”

    1 Peter 4:9

The greatest act of hospitality ever was a holy God welcoming in unholy sinners on the cross of Jesus Christ. Even with all of our sin and junk, God welcomed us in Christ. As those who have experienced such a welcome, we are compelled to the same - to both friends and strangers.

  • “This is how one should regard us, as servants of Christ and stewards of the mysteries of God. Moreover, it is required of stewards that they be found faithful.”

    1 Corinthians 4:1-2

“... [God] himself gives to all mankind life and breath and everything.”

    Acts 17:25b

“For from [Jesus] and through him and to him are all things. To him be glory forever.”

    Romans 11:36

Stewardship is the practice of arranging all of oneself - time, talents, and treasure - under the Lordship of Jesus. Nothing we have or nothing we are is ours to hoard; everything is the Lord’s! As such, our time, talents, and treasure should reflect that reality, instead of being ours to hoard.

Walker and Sarah Byrd

A Vision More Than a Decade in the Making.

The Mountain Brook Project did not begin with a plan to start another church. It began with a desire to see people know Jesus.

After coming to faith in college, the Lord began leading Walker back to the place he grew up and had grown to love to share what God had done in his life with friends, neighbors, and classmates. Over the next decade, that desire was shaped through ministry with Auburn Cru, seminary, time serving with Citizens Church in Charlotte, and pastoral ministry at Oak Mountain Presbyterian Church (OMPC).

In recent years, the Byrds have walked through an intentional season of prayer and discernment alongside the leadership of OMPC and the PCA. Through that process, a vision has continued to take shape for a new church rooted in Jesus, deeply invested in the life of this community, and committed to sharing the gospel for the good of our neighbors, our city, and our world.

Our Foundation Isn’t New.

The Mountain Brook Project is being planted within the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA) and stands within the historic Reformed tradition.

Our beliefs are grounded in Scripture and summarized in the Westminster Confession of Faith and Catechisms. More than a theological framework, these convictions shape how we understand the gospel, worship, discipleship, the church, and our life together.
